In the West, these stones are usually known as King stones or Sun Tiger stones. The stones of the King or Sun Tiger series have a relatively soft bond, which allows the abrasives to be continually exposed during use, making the stone highly effective. These stones are particularly suitable for extremely hard, low-alloy carbon steels (White and Blue Paper Steel). Before use, soak the stones in water for at least 15 minutes. They can also be stored in water permanently. Green silicon carbide abrasive is used for 180 grit. <p>Medium-grit lime sandstone from the Kumamoto region for general sharpening. Readily absorbs water, cuts well and easily produces a fine slurry.</p> <p>Japanese Natural Stones</p> <p>""A blade and sharpening stone must be as perfect a match as bride and groom"" according to legendary blacksmith, Shigeoshi Iwasaki. Finding the ideal pairing is no easy task in either case. Despite the excellent performance of synthetic stones, many experienced sharpeners still prefer natural stones for sharpening their finest blades. Japanese sharpening stones are particularly renowned for their effect to harmoniously sharpen hand-forged carbon steels. They can bring a blade’s full potential to the fore and allow the sharpening process itself to become a pleasant ritual. The finest stones from the Honyama quarries are becoming increasingly difficult to acquire - we take great pleasure in still being able to offer these rare treasures. Natural Japanese stones may only be used with water and must be kept protected from frost. <p>With its traditional design, where the user can adjust the cutting edge by turning the knurled screw in the back, this sharpening system is one of the most precise and easy-to-use on the market. Simply angle the edge of the plane blade or chisel blade with the sliding ""T-piece"", pull the blade out to your sharpening stone and tighten the clamping knob, now you can finely adjust the cutting angle with the rear micro-adjustment knob. With a few simple steps, you can get accurate and repeatable results. Using the setting gauge always gives you the same angle when grinding. The setting gauge is marked with the angles 20°, 25°, 30° and 35°.
